Artists Biography
Claire was born in London and moved to Hong Kong in 1993 aged 26.
She studied law at Hong Kong University after the birth of her second child and was called to the Bar in Hong Kong in 2000.
Claire remarried in 2002 and has two more children from the second marriage.
After leaving the Bar in Hong Kong, Claire began painting seriously in 2013 and held her first exhibition at the Asia Contemporary Art Show in 2016.
In 2017 she returned to the show with her sell out series “Ground Level”, an exploration of the people who work at ‘Ground Level’ in Hong Kong – impasto oil on canvas capturing the street sweepers, rubbish collectors and other ‘invisible’ people who work so hard to keep Hong Kong running.
A hiatus from 2018 to 2020 due to concentration on family culminating in a move to Melbourne in July 2020 during the height of the Covid
lockdown. The genesis and first few pieces of ‘Material and Light’ slowly came into being starting 2017.
Claire is currently working in a corner of her living room completing pieces for the realism part of Material and Light and learning the techniques of acrylic fluid art to produce small experimental Marquette abstract pieces.
Claire has also been working on some portrait commissions.
